Creators of Cherished Teddies®

Priscilla and Glenn Hillman are a Mother/Son artist team that design the award-winning Cherished Teddies® Collection. Priscilla is a self-taught artist, who studied botany at University of Rhode Island. After graduating she worked at the United States Oceanographic Office. In 1965, she resumed her interest in art, and began illustrating and writing children’s books for Doubleday. In 1980, she had a back injury, and she was unable to draw. During that time she imagined sketches of teddy bears, that she later put on paper. In 1990 she partnered with Enesco to develop the Cherished Teddies Collection. Now her son Glenn (a graduate of Vassar College), has joined Priscilla in her passion for designing the sweet-faced teddy bears. He has created his own series of over 120 pieces, and tours the country to meet fans of Cherished Teddies.

The settings for Cherished Teddies are inspired by the gardens at the artist's New England home, annual trips to England, and classical music like Vivaldi and Mozart. The garden includes daisies, irises, peonies, day lilies, and an impressive herb garden which includes onions, chives, sage, thyme, parsley, basil, golden oregano, medicinal herbs from Colonial times, and catnip for the neighborhood cat.
